Car rental in Dubai

Dubai's motorway tolls are charged automatically at Salik gates (since 2025: AED 6 at peak times, AED 4 at other times, no toll from 01:00 to 06:00). With a rental car, tolls and traffic fines are charged by the rental company after the rental ends, to your card on file or from the deposit.

After the rental, the company checks Salik and traffic fine records and then releases the hold on your card; depending on your bank this can take from a few days to a few weeks. Each car's deposit is shown on its card before payment, so you can compare cars with a lower deposit.

In our example search (21 – 24 November 2026, Dubai International (DXB)) the deposits ranged from €355 to €489. Each car's deposit is shown before you book. The deposit is not part of the rental price: the rental company holds it on your card at pick-up and releases it after the car is returned; how long the release takes depends on the company and your bank.

Minimum driver age, how long you must have held your licence and the required documents depend on the rental company; each offer shows its conditions before you book. You need a passport, a driving licence and a credit card in the driver's name. Some countries and rental companies may ask for an International Driving Permit (IDP); check the company's conditions and the country's rules before you travel.

Insurance cover and excess, mileage limit and fuel policy depend on the rental company and the car; each offer shows them before you book. The total rental price and the deposit are shown before payment; anything payable at the desk is shown separately.
